Keeping It Real with LaKeisha

My Bio Keeping It Real Welcome to My World

I'm BACK!

February 12, 2009

Just when those of you thought I would never write another entry....Well, you are wrong! I'm back. After the year I have had, I thought I would start my blog up again because so much is going on! I am proud to have started this blog, and now I can focus on my baby again. So let get started!

Let's start with the Stimulus Bill that was passed. As usual, the Republicans are only thinking of themselves, and it's the Democrats who are thinking of the people. President Obama stated that this is not the time for Partisan Politics, and he's right. For eight years, we had partisan politics, and it got us nowhere. Now it is time for something new, unity. The country is in turmoil. Our economy is failing. People are losing jobs. This crisis is going to take some time to work its way out, but we are Americans. We are strong and resilient. It's what makes this country so great. So can we put aside our differences and make things happen??

Two things...

June 12, 2008

Well, I will really be posting over the next few weeks about my venture to my second home of Florida. I'm an Obama Organizing Fellow so I will doing big things there. So keep your eyes out on that..

Also,

I will be interviewing Deanie Mills, author of the "Deanie's Blue Inkspots" blog. She has written an excellent blog post titled:

HILLARY SUPPORTERS: FROM ONE MOTHER TO ANOTHER, I'M BEGGING YOU

It's about how some Hillary supporters are saying that they will vote for McCain since she is not the nominee. Deanie gives fantastic insight on why a vote for McCain is not the most wise decision that one can make. I  will be asking her questions about this post and her feelings about this election and its importance as well as party unity. So keep an eye on that..

You can read Deanie's blog here: Deanie's Blue Inkspots

OH..One more thing..

I will post an entry on my friend, the Honorable Darren Soto. Recently he has come under attack by Florida's Planned Parenthood about a vote on two house bills dealing with abortion. I got a lot to say on this topic, so watch for that.

Well...

The Fundamentals of the Game: How the game is played not sold

June 1, 2008

Yesterday, The DNC's Rules and Bylaws committee voted to seat the delegations of FL and MI with each delegate having  half a vote. This, in essence, was fair and reasonable. Something that I was hoping for. I congratulate Karen Thurman and Jon Ausman (Thanks for the updates!!) for the valiant effort that was put in. I was proud to call Florida my second home, and you both made me proud. So thank you. To the Michigan delegation, I am happy to know that I will be hanging with my friends from the Wolverine state in Denver! We have to come to this unified, and by God, we will. So let's get it together. So, as you can see, I am happy that I will see my fellow democrats from Florida and Michigan. That is not why I am writing this entry. I am sorely disappointed in some of the Hillary supporters who have forgotten how the game is played. Those supporters who feel that this is Hillary's time. That she's entitled to this nomination. Those are the supporters I am disappointed in.

Yesterday, I watched the meeting online. I wanted to see how the outcome was going to be. I...

Dr. King's Dream Still Lives On...In ME!!

April 7, 2008

I think this is the most important entry I have ever made since I started this blog. It's 4:07am, and I just got through watching a documentary about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This is one of those times I had to reflect on what it means to be a black woman in this country, and how I can make a difference in this country.

I think about my grandmother, who grew up in a town that is small enough to be missed. As young woman growing up, my grandmother was one of the most strongest women I know. She got married at 18 and had her first child at 20. That child is my mother. As my grandmother made her way in the world, she would not forget the discrimination she faced. How she had to shop, go out to eat, and just be a working woman in the city of Mobile, Alabama. Discrimination was rampant, but in 1963, that all changed. Dr. Martin Luther King gave a speech at the Lincoln Memorial. "I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up to live out the true meaning of its creed: We hold these truths to...

What happened to what I think?

February 24, 2008

As a young person who votes and speaks her mind, somewhere somebody fell asleep at the wheel. Because they forgot to listen to what I think or what I want. This is not fair nor is it fair to my daughters. Let me say why.

I was asleep, taking an afternoon nap, and watching CNN's Ballot Bowl. Hillary Clinton came on, and she began to talk about her plan for Universal Health Care. I'm all for that, but as a parent, I more concerned about my daughters having health care than me. All this talk about mandating health care for everyone is crazy. What got me was when Hillary tried to compare her plan to Social Security and Medicare. Look, I'm only 32, and I'm thinking about retirement now. I'm making sure that I have some kind of retirement plan in place before I'm even 40. So, don't try to compare your plan to that. The cost of health care has to go down before you mandate anyone to get health care. I have health care right now. Through my employer, I have health care, but I don't have an HMO, I have a PPO. Which means I have a...

Happy New Year! So much to Say...So Little Time

January 29, 2008

Sorry for not posting for the rest of 2007. But I am back, and better than ever! Why? Well, it is an election year, and I must say that this year is going to be a one for the history books. First of all, if this is your first time reading my blog, then welcome. I try to post as much as I can, but sometimes, I do neglect my baby! I don't mean to, but I don't have a computer right now. If you're willing to donate one, let me know! I am a verbal kind of girl. I don't hold my tongue for anyone, but this blog is for me to express my opinions and be a voice to the little man. Hey, if big political people can have a blog, why can't I? So sit back, relax, and enjoy what you're about to read.

For those of you that are wondering who am I supporting for the Presidential election, let me rest your mind. I am supporting Barack Obama. I am also declaring my run as a delegate for District 7. I am happy to be a part of this political process, and in fact, it would...

September 8, 2007

So hey people! Miss me? Sorry it's been awhile since I blogged. I have been busy with working and moving. Crazy changes going on right now. There is a lot to be said. From the debacle in Florida over the primary to Sen. Larry Craig. I could start right now, but I'm going to wait. Don't forget to comment and tell your friends about this blog! Thanks!

Not Everyone thinks like you, Ann!

June 27, 2007

You know I had to clap loud as I could in my house today. I watched on YouTube, Elizabeth Edwards' confrontation of Ann Coulter. All I got to say is..."YOU GO, GIRL!!!" Finally someone shut Ann Coulter up!!! Even if it's only for a few minutes. This woman has foot in mouth disease. I mean, come on. How can she go around spewing hate and rhetoric like it's alright? I know what I said in one of my earlier posts about choice, but I have to draw the line somewhere. This is about coming together and going into healthy debates. Does Ann Coulter think she's winning support for the Republicans? They hardly acknowledge her. So here's my personal message to Ann Coulter:

Ann,

You don't know me, and I sure don't want to know you, but I thought I would just speak my mind and tell you what I think about you. You are, what my grandmother would call, a hateful person. I'm being generous here. I could call you what I really want to call you, but I'm not. I got more respect for myself. I'm not bringing myself to your level, but I wanted tell you that your...

My top ten inspirational Politicians...

June 13, 2007

Yes, I'm going to post more. I keep a journal of all my thoughts and soon they will be here. This is one of my thoughts. On my way back from Mobile, I thought about who is an inspiration to me. So I decided to list my top ten inspirational politicians. Some are on a national level and some are on a state or local level. Here it is...my top ten:

10. Michael C. Dow-Former Mayor of Mobile, Alabama. This man had great ideas for the City of Mobile to make it a great city again, and he did a fabulous job. Not only did we build a convention center, but we brought Carnival Cruise Line to Mobile. That was a feat in and of itself! Thanks Mike!

9. Gov. Jeanne Shaheen-Former Governor of New Hampshire. Gov. Shaheen made me feel proud to be a resident of New Hampshire. She did a lot for that state in my opinion, and she was a sweet lady. I only met her once, but it was a meeting I would never forget.

8. Rep. Scott Randolph- (D) Dist. 36, Florida House of Representatives.... [More]
